This week in music 04.02.2014

This week’s featured releases come from Idoling NEO and Nogizaka46.

Idoling NEO – “Sakura Horizon

Okay, let’s get things started over here. First up this week we have Idoling NEO (or Goto Kaoru, Ito Yuna and friends to some people) with their second single “Sakura Horizon”. I really enjoyed their first single “mero mero” so when I heard this was coming out I was pretty excited. Even more shocking to some of you is that I actually really like this song too. I’ve seen a few people compare the song to Momoiro Clover Z and I guess you can make that stretch if you want to. I don’t really think they’re that similar, in fact I wish Momoclo would do this style of music instead of whatever surrealist acid trip they’ve been on for the past two years. Anyway, go check this song out, check out Idoling NEO and discover some pretty cool new music.

Nogizaka46 – “Kizuitara Kataomoi

Our other featured release for this week is obviously from Nogizaka46 because I’m pretty much obligated to cover the AKS/48G/whatever releases. This is the last of a pretty grueling month and a half of releases and it’s not the most exciting of notes to go out on. What we have is a fairly mid-tempo ballady affair that’s pleasant enough but doesn’t really set your imagination alight. It’s not really for me but you have to have a single like this from time to time and my opinion doesn’t really matter anyway so it is what it is. I haven’t really heard the b-sides at this point so it’s hard to comment on those but I’m hoping there’ll be something interesting for me in there somewhere. We’ll see.

Kimi No Tonari De Odoritai!” by Doll Elements
Eye of the Wise” by FantaRhyme
“Idol Class History 2” by Idol Class
Viva! Linda Third” by Linda Sansei
Brand New Day” by Lyrical School
Hello Again” by Trick8f

I’m going to start sounding like a broken record here soon but FantaRhyme and Trick8f. If you don’t check out anything else this week then make it those two groups. They make fantastic music and are criminally underrated. I have yet to meet anyone who doesn’t at least like one of their songs so come on, what have you got lose? Seriously though, check them out. They’re both really good and still at the point where you can be a super hipster who knew them before they got big.

If you missed any of the last few weeks’ worth of new music you can check out past editions of This Week in Music here.

What new music are you looking forward to this week? Leave a comment and let us know!
