New digital singles have been coming frequently lately from Kamiyado, who grace us with a promotional video for their song “Syunpu Ambitious (春風Ambitious)”. The ambitious part of the promotional video comes from red member Ichinose Mika planning and editing the project. For footage the girls tap a “sixth member” (it’s retired member Naho) to document the girls on a normal summer day of playing in the park, hitting the tea shop for boba milk tea, and eating outrageously cheesy corn dogs. Throughout, Kamiyado’s members look exceedingly normal, and I mean that in the “approachable and down-to-earth” definition of the word. If you’re watching my Twitter feed, it should be no surprise that I’m in the middle of a love affair with Kamiyado. That said, I love the energetic arrangement of the song with its crazy keyboards and slap-and-pop bass lines: it really typifies a distinctive idol sound. You can download a copy of “Syunpu Ambitious” from the digital retailers listed below.
Kamiyado (神宿) is a Harajuku based Japanese idol group formed in September 2014. They are also known as KMYD. The origin of their name is a combination of the kanjis 神 (“kami”) from Meiji Shrine (明治神宮) and 宿 (“yado”) from Harajuku (原宿). The acronym for KMYD is Kawaii (可愛い！) Max (全力！) Yell (応援！) Dream (夢！). Kamiyado’s lineup currently includes Hashima Miki (羽島みき), Koyama Hina (小山ひな), Hashima Mei (羽島めい), Ichinose Mika (一ノ瀬みか), and Shiomi Kira (塩見きら).
