Yoshi’s Favorite Releases Of 2017

Gather around, boys and girls. It’s time to reveal my favorite releases from 2017. The folks who tuned into my stream on the 19th got the early access version of my list so don’t forget to follow our twitch channel so you can get notifications when we go live. Here we go!

I didn’t think 2017 was a great year for PVs so I made a top 5 list of the PVs I really enjoyed.

5. Tsubaki Factory – Shuukatsu Sensation

A simple, straightforward PV with a surreal element of Tsubaki Factory members trying to get a corporate job while performing the song.

4. You’ll Melt More! – Moimoi

A charming comedy PV about the members working at a restaurant and failing hard. There’s one solution to all of their work problems. HYPNOTIZE the customers that are complaining. Very aggressive light flashing around 2:55 so please be careful.

3. GEM – Sugar Baby

A “1! 2! 3! 4! Yoroshiku!” lite version if you will. A solid PV to showcase the members and it is quite refreshing to see members of GEM wearing school uniforms.

2. Keyakizaka46 – Kaze ni Fukaretemo

I have a thing for suits. All the members are wearing suits. The location, set/light change during the video is super well done.

1. BiSH – GiANT KiLLERS

This form of story telling is the only form I want in idol PVs. NO SEISHUN DRAMAS. The gun action in the second half is probably as good as it gets for idol PVs.

Other PVs I enjoyed:

BiSH – Promise The Star

Task have Fun – 3WD

predia – Nouvelle Cuisine

AKB48 – #Sukinanda

BiS – I can’t say NO!!!!!!!

Next up are my top 15 songs from 2017.

15. BiS – I can’t say NO!!!!!!!

14. BiSH – Promise The Star

13. PASSPO – playground

12. ANGERME – Kimi Dake ja nai sa…friends

11. predia – Nouvelle Cuisine

10. Cheeky Parade – Shout along!

An incredible idol pop take on rap metal. Plenty of idols have tried it before Cheeky Parade. They’re the ones that managed to leave an impression on me.

9. GEM – Sugar Baby

Like the title suggests. It’s sugar for days. I just happen to have a sweet tooth and the only cure is more sugar, baby.

8. Niji no Conquistador – No Life Baby Of The End

Danceman arranged song. A ton of horns on the reg. Plus Nizicon. Recipe for success.

7. GANG PARADE – Beyond the Mountain

Mysterious intro and verse sets up a spectacular chorus supported by solid vocals.

6. Morning Musume ’17 – Jealousy Jealousy

Tsunku comes back to write infectiously catchy melodies for this song.

5. Tsubaki Factory – Shuukatsu Sensation

N A K A J I M A T A K U I

4. Super Girls – Sweet Smile

The yearly quota of a Super Girls song making my list. Cute song that puts me in a better mood in any situation.

3. BiSH – GiANT KiLLERS

An aggressive song with attitude out the wazoo. Scramble in screaming vocals by Ling Ling and cutesy vocals by Atsuko combines for a unique effort.

2. predia – Kindan no Masquerade

Hard-hitting music accompanied by assertive vocals. As the two aspects fight for dominance, the song turns into THE power song of 2017.

1. Tokyo Girls’ Style – predawn

There aren’t enough superlatives to describe this song. Alluring instrumentation, elegant melodies and possibly the best vocal performance of TGS’s history.

Other songs I enjoyed:

2& – Chippoke Hero

Gusou Drop – Painfully violent

HKT48 – Kiss wa Matsushikanainodeshouka

AKB48 – #Sukinanda

Niji no Conquistador – Natsu no Yoru wa Mijikasugirukedo

Yanakoto Sotto Mute – Any

You’ll Melt More – Moimoi

GANG PARADE – GANG PARADE

Keyakizaka46 – Kaze ni Fukaretemo

Those are my favorite releases of 2017! Thanks for reading!
