What Idol Group Received The Best New Artist Award At The 57th Japan Record Awards?
You guessed it! It was Kobushi Factory. Wait, you didn’t know? Wait, you don’t know who Kobushi Factory is? I got some hot scoops on their music. Check it out!
“Nen Niwa Nen”
This song might not be the strongest song off of their debut single but still very catchy and has a very throwback feel to the melodies.
“Dosukoi! Kenkyoni Daitan”
Dosukoi has a Japanese summer festival type feel, much like this Whiteberry classic, “Natsumatsuri”. I could probably do without the random “dosukoi” voices in the song though.
“Ramen Daisuki Koizumi-san no Uta”
Never thought I’d enjoy a song about a girl liking ramen this much. This song is for the drama starring Hayami Akari(formerly of Momoiro Clover) and is a cover of Sharam Q which happens to be Tsunku’s old band. The original is pretty good too.
“Chotto Guchoku ni! Chototsu Moushin”
The composer of this song, Maeyamada Kenichi A.K.A. Hyadain is most well-known for his work with Stardust idol groups. Hyadain actually was a fan of Hello Project idol groups and Tsunku’s work. This is not the first time he has written a song for a Hello Project group. He has written songs for Tsukishima Kirari starring Kusumi Koharu(anime Kirarin Revolution), MilkyWay(unit formed for Kirarin Revolution), and Melon Kinenbi. In classic Hyadain faashion, the song is super energetic and incredibly catchy.
“Osu! Kobushi Tamashii”
Osu packs a punch. LITERALLY. Finally a song title to reference their awkwardly named group. Kobushi is the name for the flower magnolia but if you ask any random person who can speak Japanese, kobushi is, fist. FIST. They also have “factory” in their name which is them carrying on Berryz Koubou’s name. Berryz Koubou member Shimizu Saki assisted in coming up with the name as she has taken on an adviser role with Hello Project after Berryz Koubou went into hiatus. Parts of this song, mainly the pre-chorus and chorus takes me back to the days of 90’s J-pop.
“Sakura Night Fever”
This song is written by KAN who performed one of the most recognizable songs in Japanese pop history. KAN is responsible for the 90’s hit, “Ai wa Katsu”.
Kobushi Factory has pumped out two straight singles(6 A-sides) with no dud for me. I’ve enjoyed EVERYTHING I’ve heard by them. Their new single, “Sakura Night Fever / Chotto Guchoku ni! Chototsu Moushin / Osu! Kobushi Tamashii” is in stores now! If they keep going in this trajectory, they will quickly become one of my favorite idol groups in terms of musical output. Then comes the time to pick an oshimen… Stay tuned…
