This week’s featured releases come from Cheeky Parade, Negicco and Rev.from DVL.

Cheeky Parade – “Candy Pop Galaxy Bomb!! / Kizuna Punky Rock!!

After what I hear was a pretty successful showing in New York City a few weeks ago, Cheeky Parade return this week with a new double a-side single. When I read the title of the leading song, it came with certain expectations. I mean, if you name a song “Candy Pop Galaxy Bomb!!” then it better be the coolest thing ever. Unfortunately, Cheeky Parade fall well short of being “the coolest thing ever” and what we ended up getting was a fairly repetitive and underwhelming song. Even the other a-side “Kizuna Punky Rock!!” doesn’t really live up to its title, well at least from the live version that I was able to find anyway. Overall just a very disappointing single from Cheeky Parade, something that’s becoming a bit of a theme as of late.

Negicco – “Hikari no Spur

It might not feel like it, but Christmas is fast approaching. That means for the next month or so we’re going to be…treated to all manner of seasonal songs from various idol groups. Negicco appear to be leading the charge with their new single “Hikari no Spur” and it’s certainly full of holiday cheer. Even the PV goes the extra mile to really drive home the holiday spirit, and the girls all get a pretty sweet looking holiday out of it too. I’m not really one for Christmas songs in general, unless it’s a very special case and I can’t say that I’m super into this one either. That being said, it’s objectively a pretty good song although not really on the level of Negicco when they’re really firing on all cylinders.

Rev.from DVL – “Real / Koi Iro Passion”

One idol hype group Rev.from DVL are our last featured release for this week. That’s something I never thought I’d ever see myself writing. I make no secret of the fact that I’m not much of a Rev fan, be it their music or the overly revered Hashimoto Kanna. Having said all of that, “Real” as a song really does it for me. It’s hard to explain but the song as a whole just feels like it has more substance than their past singles. It’s also in a style that I have a particular fondness for, so there’s that too. Apparently the single is a double a-side but I’ve seen zero promotion for “Koi Iro Passion” so who knows how that will play out. Oh, there’s also the whole “nobody knowing any of the members other than Kanna” thing still, but at least the music is trending in a positive direction.

ALSO THIS WEEK:

“Yavay Japan 2020 / Oh! Sista” by hy4_4yh
True End Player” by Idol College
“Aisaretai! / Happy Birthday” by Puzzlegirls
Meririririririri Christmas” by Shooting Star Girls
Circus wo Koroshitano wa Dareda” by Starmarie
X Gift” by X21

My only recommendation from this week’s other featured releases is Shooting Star Girls’ “Meririririririri Christmas”. It’s literally the new “Santa-san“. Until next time.
