This Week in Music 11.14.2012

We’ve got three very different non-AKS releases to look forward to this week. Each of them is very good in their own right so hopefully everyone can find something that they like. Read on to find out more.

Afilia Saga East – “Survive!!”

We kick things off this week with maid-cafe idol group Afilia Saga East. “Survive!!” is the group’s ninth single and it marks a departure from the usual sugary sweet anime songs that you may know the group for. “Survive!!” has a much more mature sound which means it’s probably worth a look if you didn’t care for Afilia Saga East’s past few singles. I wouldn’t count on them adopting this sort sound from now on but this is a nice change of pace, something that you need every once and a while. Afilia Saga East really don’t get enough recognition in western fandom so check them out and you can pretend that you saw them first if nothing else.

Fairies – “White Angel”

Next up we have Fairies, a group that I should probably pay more attention to but don’t. “White Angel” is the group’s fifth single and the first one not to be released as a double a-side. I never understood why they did double a-sides in the first place so this is a welcomed change. As far as the song goes, it’s a pretty standard Fairies sounding song. They keep doing what they do really well and it makes for very solid….idol(?) music. If you want an actual review of the song/PV then wait for Dae’s impressions article later in the week.

PASSPO☆ – “One World”

Last up for this week we have PASSPO☆ who are releasing their third album. The album is titled “One World” and it pretty much features all of the group’s singles and b-sides from the past year. That means “Next Flight, “Natsuzora Hanabi”, “WING” and the like are all present and accounted for. There’s also a sprinkling of new songs to keep the hardcore fans interested. If you’re looking to get into PASSPO☆ then grab this album and their last album which is titled “CHECK IN” and you’ve got a great starting point.

So, did you find something that you liked? I hope so but if not, there’s always next week. Check back then for some thoughts on releases from C-ute, Momoiro Clover Z, Shiritsu Ebisu Chuugaku and AKB48’s Watanabe Mayu.
