This Week in Music 10.17.2012

Got a couple new releases to talk about this week. One of which I had forgotten was even coming out, my bad I guess? Anyway enough small talk, let’s get to the releases.

Sashihara Rino with AnRiRe – “Ikujinashi Masquerade”

We’re kicking things off with Sashihara Rino and….special guests(?) AnRiRe. This is Sashihara’s second solo single (technically AnRiRe don’t sing on the a-side) to date, a feat that I’m sure some of us didn’t think would happen after her scandal. I wish I could say that this is a memorable single but I just can’t. I forgot that this was even coming out this week before I actually went and checked, which should say a lot. “Ikujinashi Masquerade” is a very by the book idol song and just isn’t as good as “Sore Demo Suki da yo”. If you’re a Sashihara wota or can’t get enough of that AKB Kool-Aid then sure, check it out. Otherwise, you’re really not going to be missing much if you choose to pass on this one.

Tokyo Girls’ Style – “Road To 12.22 Budokan -Bad Flower-“

Our other release this week comes from Tokyo Girls’ Style, who are always good for an interesting single. “Bad Flower” is the group’s eleventh single overall and features the group’s usual mature flair. Depending on your opinion, this might be getting a little tired but it’s hard to argue when the songs are so solid. Also featured on the release is b-side “LolitA☆Strawberry in summer” which is a cover of a SweetS song, a group that you may be familiar with if you were into the scene in the early 00s. I don’t really do a “Pick of the Week” type thing in these articles but if I did, Tokyo Girls’ Style would be this week’s.

That’s your lot for this week. Come back next week when both Brand-new Idol Society and Super☆Girls release some new material.
