Morning Musume ’14 – “TIKI BUN / Shabadaba Doo~ / Mikaeri Bijin

morning-musume-14-tiki-bun

Only one real marquee release this week and it comes from Hello! Project’s flagship group Morning Musume ’14. It’s yet another triple a-side, because bad habits are really hard to break as we all know. That aside, this is also the last single to feature departing leader Michishige Sayumi. Not only does she feature on the leading a-side “TIKI BUN”, but she also gets a solo song in the form of “Shabadaba Doo~”. The final a-side, “Mikaeri Bijin” is left to the remaining members and serves as a fitting send-off for Sayumi.

I personally enjoy each of the songs featured on the single for different reasons. “TIKI BUN” is the super hype EDM goodness that I’ve come to want and expect from Morning Musume. “Shabadaba Doo~” also goes a long way to tapping into my love of jazz and lounge music, and also proves that Tsunku still very much does have it when it comes to writing music. Even “Mikaeri Bijin”, the kind of song I normally don’t have the time of day for, is interesting enough that I want to go back and listen to it again and again.

Considering most of you reading this probably went to see Morning Musume in New York a week or so back, I doubt I have to sell you on this single. For anyone who needs further convincing, I consider this to be one of the best Morning Musume singles in recent years.

ALSO THIS WEEK:

“Alone / Mou Hitotsu” by 1 Believe FNC (Trust)
Legend of the Girl” by Hyakka Ryouran
Train=Train=Train=Train” by Station

I can’t really make any recommendations when it comes to this week’s other releases. Super short previews and ghetto fancam performances aren’t really how I operate. That said, the new Station single sounds like it might have something to it. Again though, it’s hard to tell from a 30 second preview. Until next time.
