This week in music 10.08.2014

This week’s featured releases come from DIVA and Nogizaka46.

DIVA – “Discovery

Its been a hot minute since DIVA released some new music, hasn’t it? That’s down to a number of factors that probably shouldn’t be mentioned anymore but yeah, its been a while. In all honesty, I pretty much thought they were done and I was kinda right because this single is very much a last hurrah for the group. Get everyone (and I mean everyone) back together for one last single, you guys know the score. Anyway, if you like DIVA then you’ll probably like “Discovery” too. It’s perhaps a bit more poppy than usual but I confess that its been so long since I’ve listened to DIVA that my opinion could be completely off. I don’t think I really have to sell anyone on this single, you either already liked DIVA or you didn’t really care and with their break-up, there’s not much reason for you to start now.

Nogizaka46 – “Nandome no Aozora ka?

Nogizaka46 also have a new single this week, with an Ikuta Erika flavored center this time. Something that certainly made a lot of people I know very happy. I guess in a lot of ways it’s rather surprising that Ikuta hasn’t been center before now but hopefully the wait was worth it. Moving on to the actual a-side, normally these kinds of songs don’t really do much for me – it’s not that they’re bad songs it’s just that they’re usually just okay. For some reason, “Nandome no Aozora ka?” is a good bit better than “just okay”. I’m not really sure why that is but I’m not going to complain too much. At least people can’t say I only like high tempo, bouncing off the walls with ADHD songs now right?

“Ano Koro no Hit Song wo Idol ga Utatte Mitara Minna Genki ni Natta!” by Happy Idol Project

This week is really dead, with only one other release outside of the ones that I featured. I honestly know nothing about Happy Idol Project and their music isn’t readily available so it’s even harder to give an opinion one way or the other. You’re on your own on this one guys, until next time.

If you missed any of the last few weeks’ worth of new music you can check out past editions of This Week in Music here.
