This Week in Music 08.28.2013

This week’s lone featured release comes from Morning Musume.

Morning Musume – “Wagamama Ki no Mama Ai No Joke / Ai No Gundan

For one reason or another, Morning Musume are our only featured release this week. That’s okay though, because the group’s 54th single delivers and serves us up probably the best double a-side I’ve heard this year. The dubstep is still kinda there but has been toned down and there’s more focus on the vocals, which I think is great because some of these girls can really sing.

This is the part where I’d normally say that if you didn’t already like “Dubstep Musume” then this probably isn’t for you. However I’ve noticed quite a few lapsed fans expressing praise over this single so Morning Musume must be doing something right here. While I personally find “Ai no Gundan” to be the more enjoyable song, both it and “Wagamama Ki no Mama Ai no Joke” are great listens and I would encourage you to put whatever preconceived notions that you may have to one side and check them out.

Boku wa Kimi Ni Koi wo Shita” by Idol Class
“Hey Now!!” by Predia
“Gyo-Za Party” by Tochiotome25

As for the other stuff? Well, I couldn’t find PVs for Predia or Tochiotome25 so it’s impossible for me to make a recommendation either way on those. However, Idol Class save the day by providing us with a rather charming song and PV which I think is well worth checking out if you have the time.

Let me know what you think about Morning Musume and Idol College in the comment section below.

  1. With the news of Tsunku not choosing anyone from the auditions to become the 12th gen of morning musume because none of them were good enough on grounds that no-one who entered was good enough it’s good that MM have this to release after that announcement.

This is a very strong double A side release with two good songs, and they even let the girls out of a studio for the MV for a very welcome change!

Of course many might well brand this as part of the “Dubstep Musume” movement but that’s a bit unfair as they have in fact slowly been modifying and changing this new sound and in these two songs I feel that it is at it’s most noticeable and in this they have created a pretty good sound…..

So no-one good enough for 12trh gen? Well Tsunku may have a point because MM really are stepping up right now!
