Afilia Saga – “Neptune☆Sagashite

Leading things off this week we have Afilia Saga with their latest single “Neptune☆Sagashite”. It currently serves as the ending theme for the Hyperdimension Neptunia anime that’s airing in Japan right now. As far as the song goes, I wouldn’t say it’s their best effort but it’s still a very pleasant listen. It’s a bit more low key and laid back, which I suppose is to be expected when you’re performing the ending theme for an anime. Still, I think it’s worth a listen if you’ve never checked out Afilia Saga before and please don’t let the fact that it’s an “anime song” put you off. It doesn’t sound anything like what that term usually implies.

BiS Kaidan – “BiS Kaidan”

Brand-new Idol Society return to push the boundaries of idol music again this week. This time they’ve teamed up with noise/free improvisation group Hijokaidan. Sounds like a match made in heaven to me. Here’s the PV for their cover of Togawa Jun’s “Suki Suki Daisuki” so you can get an idea of what we’re dealing with here. It’s certainly not for everyone and I can’t even argue with you over the fact that “it’s just noise” but it’s also catchy somehow. The album also features covers of past BiS songs such as “PPCC“, “nerve” and “primal“.

Dia Lady, Mellow Quad, Hi-Fin – “Lady Mermaid / Eiyasa! Brother / Kaigan Seisou Danshi

Rolling right along, next up we have a new release from Hello!Project and the Satoumi Movement. It’s a 3-in-1 release featuring the groups Dia Lady, Mellow Quad and Hi-Fin. For me, Dia Lady have the most enjoyable song to listen to on the release. Mellow Quad’s is a bit too creepy with talk of loving ones brother and things of that nature. Hi-Fin got the even less enviable job of singing about cleaning up a beach while on a date with a guy. Its an odd release that’s for sure although I guess it’s good that they’re learning that these groups just don’t generate enough interest to sell their own single. I’d give it a listen just for Dia Lady in all honesty.

Idoling!!! – “Summer Lion”

I’ve got a bit of a rhythm going here so let’s keep it flowing. Idoling!!! are up to bat next with their new single titled “Summer Lion”. I’m sure you can guess what kind of song this is just going by the title, right? That being said, it’s a fairly average song by all accounts, not doing anything horribly wrong while not being amazing either. There’s some hooks here but you have to dig around a little to find them. I think it has potential to be a grower but it isn’t likely to impress on first listen. If you want to hear the song you’ll have to go watch episode #1018 of the Idoling!!! television show as I can’t find it online anywhere. Sorry about that.

Kikkawa You – “Best of YOU!”

Last up in this marathon of featured releases is Kikkawa You who is releasing a “Best of” album this week titled “Best of YOU!”. I’m always kinda leery of “Best of” album when an artist has only been around for a few years and this time is no exception. Don’t get me wrong, it’s cool that everything is all together in one place but it’s not like Kikkawa’s back-catalog is so large that it’s intimidating to new fans. Check this out if you are late to the party and can’t be bothered doing the legwork but there isn’t really anything here for the established fan.

“Cinderella Summer Time” by AeLL
“Step One” by Bless
Onsoku Seito Techou / H.M” by Chimo
Sunshine Dream -Ichido Kiri No Natsu-” by Happiness
Andante” by Himekyun Fruit Can
Hanabi!!” by LinQ
“Rock Key” by Osaka BB Wave
Ni Gakki Debut Dai Sakusen!!” by Otome Shinto
“Note” by Yamaguchi Kassei Gakuen

Of the stuff I didn’t get a chance to talk about (and I talked about a lot of stuff), I like what I’m hearing from Chimo, Himekyun Fruit Can, LinQ and Otome Shinto. These groups don’t get enough exposure and they’re doing some cool things so please check them out. It’ll be worth it, I promise.

Oh and please let me know what you’re enjoying from this week’s new releases in the comment section below.
