This week’s featured releases come from Cheeky Parade, Idoling!!!, Juice=Juice and NMB48.
Cheeky Parade make their return to the singles chart this week with what, at least by my count anyway, is their first single of 2015. That’s somewhat surprising, given how in the past few years it felt as if groups were rushing to pump out as much music as possible in the shortest time possible. Perhaps it’s a sign of the times, or perhaps that New York excursion last year really put a dent in the production budget. In any case, “M.O.N.ST@R / Colorful Starlight” sees Cheeky Parade still at the top of their game and is sure to be a single that fans will enjoy.
Being a fan of Idoling!!! right now is an interesting spot to be in. It really does feel as if the group as a whole has taken their foot off the gas since they announced they would be disbanding earlier this year. It makes sense I suppose but it is a shame to see such an institution going out with more of a whimper than a bang. “Cheering You!!!” is slated to be their last single, although I’m sure some kind of “Best of” album package will also be forthcoming. In many ways it already feels like Idoling!!! have disbanded, with many of its members already finding outside work. A small positive to be found in this sad situation.
Juice=Juice happen to be one of my favorite groups under the Hello! Project banner (and they should be one of yours too). They also just happened to celebrate their second anniversary earlier this year. What better time than the present to release their debut album, right? It comes in three different configuration, with various bonus content and other such things included. All of the important entries from the Juice=Juice discography are accounted for on the release so if you’ve never given them a try before, perhaps now is the time for that first squeeze.
NMB48 also have a new single releasing this week, featuring Sutou Ririka as the center who looks more like a stereotypical young mother than a J-Pop idol. That’s probably a topic for another discussion though. Anyway, all of the usual summer idol song tropes are present on this one. It feels warm, familiar, and ultimately…overdone. It’s okay though, if the song isn’t doing anything for you then all of the tits and ass in the music video might be of interest instead. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a conventional idol video where girls are literally shaking their boobs in my face. 48G truly breaking new ground and blazing all kinds of trails in their increasingly desperate attempts to maintain relevance.

Sorry about the lack of articles these past few weeks guys. There really hasn’t been that many interesting releases to write about and work has been giving me a bit of a kicking too. This week looks to have made up for it though, with a whole host of releases for everyone to check out. Hopefully you enjoyed the article and I’ll see you next time.
If you missed any of the last few weeks’ worth of new music you can check out past editions of This Week in Music here.
