This Week in Music 07.10.2013

Featured releases this week come from C-ute and AKB48’s Watanabe Mayu.

C-ute – “Adam To Eve No Dilemma / Kanashiki Amefuri

Let’s start off with C-ute and their double a-side single (what does this even mean anymore, seriously?) “Adam To Eve No Dilemma / Kanashiki Amefuri“. “Adam To Eve No Dilemma” is your fairly typical mature sounding electro-pop song, which doesn’t do a whole lot to get you excited. Not even the strategically placed moaning in the vocals can save it. I don’t dislike the song but it just feels like it’s missing something. “Kanashiki Amefuri” follows a similar theme but with a bit more flair and a more appealing instrumental and vocal arrangement. In all honesty the song wins just because there’s a lyric that goes “There’s no umbrella for this sadness”. Powerful imagery and comedy gold rolled into one.

Watanabe Mayu – “Rappa Renshuuchuu

AKB48’s Watanabe Mayu rounds out this week’s featured releases with her 4th solo single. This time drafting in the help of Oreskaband (if you’ve never heard of them before, please do go look them up) for what most expected to be a skanking good time. Sadly that isn’t the case for whatever reason and we’re all left wondering why they even got Oreskaband in in the first place. I still don’t get it but if you look past personal expectations and disappointments, “Rappa Renshuuchuu” is still a really good song and possibly even the best Watanabe has done to date. Highly recommended.
