In my quest to give you the best primer for the week’s new music releases I realize that things could likely be greatly improved. If you share the same sentiments and have any suggestions as to how we can improve things please do leave a comment or send us an email using the contact form.
Pointless exercise in asking for any form of site feedback out of the way, let’s all remember that it’s Monday and it’s time for “This Week in Music” so buckle up and get ready for me to drop some knowledge bombs on your tiny minds.
BABYMETAL – “Headbanger!!”
We kick things off with BABYMETAL and their new single “Headbanger!!” which we’ve actually already reviewed the PV for HERE. In summary, it’s no “Doki Doki Morning” but it’s a whole lot better than “Iine!”. If you already liked BABYMETAL then this should be right up your alley. If you’ve never given them a try before there’s no time like the present. I know the thought of blending heavy metal and idol music isn’t the most palatable thing ever but it really does work surprisingly well.
Morning Musume – “One Two Three / The Matenrou Show”
Next up we have Morning Musume and their latest double a-side release “One Two Three / The Matenrou Show”. This is the group’s first single since the graduation of Niigaki Risa and in all honesty; I think this is the best Morning Musume release as a complete package (a-sides and b-sides) in a good number of years. Those that know me know that I’m not the biggest Hello!Project fan ever so don’t take what I just said lightly. All of the songs associated with this release are either incredibly solid or at worst decent so yeah, I’m actually recommending this one. The less said about PVs the better though I’m afraid. If you do happen to want to hear more about “One Two Three” there should be a PV review up on the site in the next few days.
Super☆Girls – “Puripuri SUMMER Kiss”
Rounding out this week’s new releases are Super☆Girls with “Puripuri SUMMER Kiss”. If the title hasn’t already given it away, yes this is indeed a summer song. “Oh no, not another one!” I hear you cry. Well yeah, you’re probably not going to end up liking this if you’re already thinking like that. For those of us with slightly more open minds, what we have is a rather pleasant song with some distinctly summery instrumentals that hold the whole thing together. This is actually one of the summer idol releases that I’ve enjoyed the most thus far. Let’s not get carried away though, it’s still very much in the “idol summer song” mold but that doesn’t matter when you pull it off this well. If you’re still not convinced then watch the PV and see if that changes your mind.
That’s all we have for this week. Check back next week where I’ll fanboy out over new offerings from Kikkawa Yuu and Station♪.
