This week in music 07.02.2014

This week’s featured releases come from Babyraid, Brand-new Idol Society and Up Up Girls (Kari).

Babyraids – “Jikoshoukai”

Babyraids are finally releasing their debut album this week after what some people claim is a “long wait”. I’m not so sure about that but then again I’m not one of these people clamoring for an album after a group has only released 3 singles. The timing feel right on this one basically. Anyway, the album has all of Babyraids’s past singles – including personal favorites “JUMP” and “Bucchake Rock’n Hacchake Roll“. There’s also a bonus CD with all of their past b-sides, as well as some new stuff for all of the older fans out there. If you haven’t given Babyraids a shot before and are even remotely interested in them, now seems like a good time to check them out.

Brand-new Idol Society – “Uryaoi!”

Brand-new Idol Society are also releasing a new album this week. It’s one of those “Best of” deals, something fairly typical of groups who are calling it a day (and groups who aren’t but need money) to do. I’m honestly struggling to really recommend this release to anyone. This coming from a BiS fan, but if you’re already a fan then you should have most/all of these songs already and if you aren’t already a fan then I’m not sure you’re going to become one this late in the day. I get why they’re doing this (money, bookending the group’s career, etc) but I’m not really sure who this release is supposed to be for.

Up Up Girls (Kari) – “Zenryoku! Pump Up!! / Kono Melody wo Kimi to

The last featured release for this week comes from Up Up Girls, a group that I happen to like quite a lot. Their last few singles have been especially enjoyable for me so I had fairly high hopes for this one too. Unfortunately what we ended up getting here isn’t really my kind of thing. I’m not really getting any of the big hooks that UUG are known for so in that regard this single is pretty disappointing. On the other hand, if you didn’t like UUG before then this might be sufficiently different enough for you to considering giving it a shot.

Ice Cream Magic” by Dianna☆Sweet
Kimi no Negai Kanaetai!” by Doll Elements
Fight!Fight!Fight! / Meccha Summer Days” by Fleurette
Gensou Chronicle” by Mary Angel
Junjou Mermaid” by Sunmyu
Intro Situation” by YuiKaori

From this week’s other releases, I’m kinda digging both Dianna☆Sweet and Mary Angel myself. They’re probably the most interesting, based on my personal tastes. YuiKaori and Sunmyu also seem like they’d be pretty enjoyable but not for this guy. Still, you should probably just check out everything because what does my opinion really mean anyway? Until next time.
