This week in music 05.14.2014

This week’s featured releases come from Babyraids, Super Girls and Team Syachihoko.

Babyraids – “Bucchake Rock`n Hacchake Roll / Baby Step”

Bucchake Rock`n Hacchake Roll

Longtime readers of this series will know that I feel a certain kind of way about Babyraids. For those of us in the class who are new, you could say it’s a love/hate relationship of sorts. What I mean by that is pretty much for every single of theirs that I like, there’s one that I really don’t like much at all. Given my relatively positive opinion of last single “Koi wa Panic“, I figured “Bucchake Rock`n Hacchake Roll” would be a bit of a letdown. That isn’t the case though, this song is very much my jam. I dig the pop punk verging on ska ideology going on in the composition and the song is just very enjoyable to listen to. More of this please Babyraids.

Super Girls – “Hanamichi!! Ambitious

Next up we have Super Girls, a group that I really want to like but damn if their music doesn’t make it difficult to. Before I really go in on this, I want to preface what follows by saying I don’t think “Hanamichi!! Ambitious” is a bad song. With that out of the way, I’m really confused with what they were going for here. This song kinda sounds like they had maybe a handful of different song ideas but none of them really came together so they just tossed them in a blender and this is the final result. I don’t know, maybe they were going for a kind of out of left field, style song but it doesn’t really get there. All that said, easily one of the better Super Girls songs in the past year or two. Not that they set a particularly high bar for themselves anyway.

Team Syachihoko – “Iikurashi

Team Syachihoko close out the featured releases for this week with a song that’s I suppose fairly tame for them. I have to admit, I’m not the biggest Syachihoko fan out there and that’s just how it is. Their music is so-so for me so take what I say next with a grain or two of salt. Anyway, “Iikurashi” is just kinda boring really. Sure the song has a few moments where it gets a bit more interesting but overall it doesn’t really do much to get the excitement going. If you’re looking for a replacement for old school Momoiro Clover like a few people I know are, then I don’t think you’re going to find it here.

“Killer Killer EP” by Bellring Shoujo Heart
“Dear☆Stage e Yokoso” by
Steppin’ Back” by Giselle4
“Idol Class History 3” by Idol Class
♪MUSICLEAN♪” by Nagoya Clears

There’s a couple interesting things that I didn’t get a chance to talk about this week. Giselle4 are pretty neat if only for the fact that they bring something different to the table. You don’t really hear their style of music crop up too often in the idol game. Nagoya Clears also seem like they have a pretty cool song coming out but all I really have to work with is live footage so your mileage may vary. Bellring Shoujo Heart and also have new releases out this week but they haven’t done a very good job of promoting them so I can’t really comment sadly. Unti next week.
