This week in music 05.07.2014

This week’s featured releases come from ANNA☆S and Momoiro Clover Z.

ANNA☆S – “Jinsei! Maji Mottainaiyo!

JinseiMajiMottainaiyo

Kicking this week off we have ANNA☆S. A group that I’m pretty sure at least some of you are familiar with. “Jinsei! Maji Mottainaiyo!” is their 10th single in 4 years, not bad for a group that tends to fly under the radar in the western fandom. So, how does this one stack up? Well, it’s definitely not my favorite ANNA☆S single but I’m pretty positive on what they’re trying to do here. The song has a pretty catchy beat and the girls can definitely sing well and that’s always a good thing. Even if this particular song isn’t for you, I would encourage you to check out ANNA☆S’s back catalog because there’s some really good stuff there.

Momoiro Clover Z – “Naitemo Iindayo

NaitemoIindayo

Its been quite a while since Momoiro Clover Z last released a single. 6 months is a pretty long time in the idol world but this kind of release schedule seems to be becoming the norm for Momoclo. Releasing sub-par songs also seems to be becoming a common occurrence too because that’s what we have on offer here. Stop the ride, I want to get off. This is not the Momoiro Clover that I fell in love with. I get that they’re getting older and they can’t be “genki” forever but I didn’t think they’d go full Auntie-clo this quickly. Yet again I’m left feeling disappointed by a Momoclo single. Hell maybe it’s not them, maybe I’m just not mature enough to enjoy this new direction that their music has taken. What a shame.

ALSO THIS WEEK:

Luvscream” by Luvya
“Blue Sky Blue / Warera Suma Aho Shoukougun” by N Zero
“Houkago Anthology From Sakura Gakuin” by Sakura Gakuin
“Nerima Zettai Girls” by Zettai★Girls

Fairly uninspiring selection of other stuff releasing this week. Most notable of the bunch being Sakura Gakuin who are releasing a compilation album filled with music from all of their school club sub-units. I’m pretty sure most of it has been released in one form or another previously but it’s kinda interesting. Apart from that, a fairly so-so week again. Until next time.

If you missed any of the last few weeks’ worth of new music you can check out past editions of This Week in Music here.
