This week in music 04.29.2015

This week’s featured releases come from LinQ, Momoiro Clover Z and Nakagawa Shoko X Dempagumi.inc.

LinQ – “Harehare Parade

Many of you probably think of Fukuoka prefecture and instantly associate it with HKT48. It’s okay, we’ve all made mistakes that we’re not proud of. Believe it or not, there are other idol groups in the region, one of them being LinQ. They just recently celebrated their 4th birthday so they’ve been around a while too. As part of the festivities, by releasing a new single the group also appears to be leading the charge into the mid-year hell that sees every group dropping a summer themed single like they’re going out of style. The song is pretty good though so I’ll forgive them.

Momoiro Clover Z – “Z no Chikai

Apparently Dragonball is still a thing over in Japan, the only reason I’m aware of this is the fact that Momoiro Clover Z’s newest single appears to be promoting a new movie for the franchise. Or maybe they just wanted an excuse to do some cosplay, I’m not judging anyone here. Anyway, this is the third and final in a series of Momoclo singles to come out this year, all of which have been disappointing on some level. For me, this one is just too similar to the KISS collaboration that kicked the whole project off. This transition into a more mature pop act has been particularly painful for a lot of fans I know and for better or worse, this is how things are going to be from now on.

Nakagawa Shoko X Dempagumi.inc – “Punch Line!

Last up we have a fun little collaboration with cat loving, multi-talented Nakagawa Shoko and Dempagumi.inc. As I understand it, the single is a theme song for an anime of a similar title that is currently airing in Japan. The whole thing is a bit of a joke playing off of the fact that “Punch Line” sorta sounds like “panchira” if you say it the right way. The music video of course drives the joke into the ground in a way only Shoko and Dempagumi could. All in all, it’s just some dumb fun and that’s perfectly okay. I think sometimes idol music focuses a little too much on being “serious” or “legitimate” and we lose out on getting more stuff like this.

Damn, there’s a lot of stuff coming out this week. Lots of great music on offer this week folks so hopefully you can all find something that you enjoy. Until next time.
