We’re continuing the depressing trudge through a month where new releases are few and far between here on New School Kaidan. It’s Monday so naturally it’s time for “This Week in Music” where we are yet another week closer to the promised land on May when I can get back to telling you all about more than one or two releases each week.
Before I detail this week’s lone release let’s take a quick look at how Morning Musume are doing at the time of writing this (1am Sunday morning GMT). I talked a bit about their new single in last week’s post and how much I was enjoying it so let’s see if the CD buying public agree with me. As of right now the single has sold a little over 33k copies after debuting on the chart in 3rd position earlier in the week. It then went on to top the Oricon Chart for the first time in 2 years on the 13th, beating out both Perfume and Sexy Zone. Although the numbers aren’t huge, it does provide a sliver of hope that this might be a turning point for the group who have struggled to really set the charts alight in the past few years.
Speaking of Hello!Project, another of their groups have a single out this week so read on after the break and I’ll talk about it some.
C-ute – “Kimi wa Jitensha Watashi wa Densha de Kitaku”
C-ute release their twenty third single this week. The title is up there, I won’t be typing it out again because look at how freaking long it is and also, I’m lazy. Moving right into the song itself, the best way i can describe it is that it’s a guitar driven ballad. Now, if you know me you know that I’m not the biggest fan of ballads out there so this song probably shouldn’t be receiving the most positive summary from me. However, there’s something about the way that this song is put together that just really appeals to me. I can’t really pinpoint what it is but I like the song. The PV on the other hand is pretty whatever and some dude is holding Airi’s hand I guess so if you’re not cool with idols doing that then maybe don’t watch it. Overall though, H!P puts out another pretty decent song in as many weeks which sadly in this day and age is actually something we should be celebrating. Check this one out.
There we have it guys, sorry for yet another slow week. Things kinda pick up next week so please do look for that post if you’re into Itano Tomomi, Super☆Girls or are one of the handful of western Station♪ fans out there. Until then though, this has been “This Week in Music” brought to you by New School Kaidan.
