This Week in Music 04.16.2014

This week’s featured releases come from Negicco and Morning Musume ’14.

Negicco – “Triple! Wonderland

Some weeks I find it hard to get excited about the music that’s coming out. This isn’t one of those weeks because as some of you might know, I have a lot of time for Negicco. They have a rather…off-kilter way of doing idol pop which always makes for an interesting listen. It should come as no surprise then that this is exactly what’s on offer with “Triple! Wonderland”. Critics would say it sounds a bit too similar to previous efforts but I think it’s different enough to stand on its own. If you’re looking for something a bit different but still with a blanket of familiarity, give Negicco a try. Recommended release of the week for me.

Morning Musume ’14 – “Toki Wo Koe Sora Wo Koe / Password Is 0

Morning Musume ’14 look to continue what has been a rather impressive revival in popularity this week. They’re also starting to take some tentative steps away from their “Electro Musume” sound that has been doing well for them for over a year now. That’s what “Toki Wo Koe Sora Wo Koe” feels like anyway. A testing of the waters with a slightly more low tempo song, but still with a little electronic kick. Those of us who rather enjoy Electro Musume can look to the other a-side “Password is 0” for their fix from what is by all accounts another really solid and catchy song.

Harukanata” by Himekyun Fruit Can
Love -Arigatou-” by Rev.from DVL
Hybrid Girl” by Star☆T
“Fantasy World” by Starmarie

Kinda weak selection outside of the featured stuff this week. Himekyun Fruit Can’s “Harukanata” is pretty good though if you’re looking for something else. It would course be remiss of me not to mention Rev.from DVL because they (or rather Hashimoto Kanna) are flavor of the month right now. Get on that hype kids before the next 1 in 100 year idol comes around. Apart from that, thanks for reading and I will see you next week.

If you missed any of the last few weeks’ worth of new music you can check out past editions of This Week in Music here.

  1. While Love -arigatou- sounds good at first, the only song (!!) worth looking out for is Momusu’s new single. ._.

    What a weak week!
