This Week in Music 04.03.2013

Oh boy, it’s like every smaller idol group decided to drop a new single this week. Ya’ll don’t even know. Sadly I don’t have the time or resources to go into everything coming out this week but I’ll try to hit on the main ones. Let’s get started shall we?

C-ute – “Crazy Kanzen na Otona

Our first new release of the week comes from C-ute and it sort of continues the theme of electro-pop influenced music that Hello!Project is doing right now. In this instance the vocals aren’t auto-tuned to hell so if you absolutely detest that kind of thing, it’s not here. The instrumentals veer more towards the “dark” end of the spectrum if that means anything to you and the song as a whole sports a pretty mature sound. Some people are getting a bit put off by this musical direction from Hello!Project but I don’t see a problem if the songs are good. If you’re into any of the things I mentioned check this out, if not at least check out the PV. You can thank me later.

Juice=Juice – “Watashi ga Iu Mae ni Dakishimenakya ne

Continuing along with the Hello!Project theme, next up we have the debut indie single from Juice=Juice. This fresh (I’m so sorry, I had to drop a pun in there) new unit looks to be a pretty good prospect if this debut is anything to go by. The song itself has some really nice jazz sounding parts in the instrumentals, something you don’t really see too often these days. It sort of reminds you of old school Hello!Project tunes which is either a positive or a negative depending on your views. The vocals aren’t anything amazing, which isn’t terribly surprising since it’s a new group and all. Still, this certainly looks like one for the future.

Takahashi Minami – “Jane Doe

Last up we have AKB48’s Takahashi Minami who is putting out her first solo single this week. It’s called “Jane Doe” which is possibly the dullest title for anything ever. However this release seems like a no-brainer to me and I’m surprised it didn’t happen sooner. If you asked me to describe how the song sounds, I’d say it’s somewhat of a rock ballad with mature overtones. Something that Takahashi’s voice lends itself really well to. This sort of thing isn’t really my jam but I’m not going to sit here and call it a bad song because of that. Takahashi Minami fans should love this because it’s totally what she’s all about and everyone else should be able to appreciate it for being a solid piece of music.

“Sotsugyou” by Ebisu Muscats
“Tokainaka No Kare / Haru Ha Kuru” by Green Fields
Tickeee Daisakusen! ~Yavay~ / Hyper Tickeee Queen no Uta” by hy4_4yh
“Ienai Teen-Ager” by Lucky Mates
“Meguriai” by Meguriai
Ticket To Love” by Miracle March
Give Me Up!!!” by Shibuya Dominion
“1st Smile” by Smile Gakuen
Step into My World” by Takokusekigun
“Sakura Dokei / Amayo No Tsuki” by Tasaki Asahi

As for everything else coming out this week? Do you even see that list up there? Do you honestly think I have the time to listen to all of this shit? In all seriousness though, I couldn’t find samples for a lot of these which really sucks because I want to promote smaller groups as much as possible. If you want a starting point then the obvious stuff like Tasaki Asahi and Green Fields are worth looking into, then you can pretty much just roll a dice and you’ll probably find something pretty good or at the very least interesting.
