This week in music 03.18.2015

This week’s featured releases come from Idoling!!!, Nogizaka46 and Q’ulle.

Idoling!!! – “Rodeo Machine

The release of Idoling!!!’s latest album “Rodeo Machine” has a rather ominous dark cloud looming over it. That cloud coming in the form of an out of the blue announcement that the group would be ceasing activities later in the year. This comes as a surprise to many because Idoling!!! are something of an institution in the idol world. “Rodeo Machine” might turn out to be their final album outside the obligatory “Best of” collection and if you’re not already a fan you might be questioning if it’s worth giving a shot. While ultimately that’s up to you, I personally think Idoling!! have some great music and just because they might be gone doesn’t mean their music will disappear or be any less enjoyable.

Nogizaka46 – “Inochi wa Utsukushii

Nogizaka46 release their first single of 2015 this week in the form of “Inochi wa Utsukushii”. Fairly late in the year under most circumstances but Nogizaka did drop an album back in January so it makes sense. At this point it seems like Nogizaka have found a musical identity and are attempting to build on it. Whether you personally care for that identity is another discussion entirely. That being said, fans of the more recent piano driven Nogizaka songs should be fairly happy with what’s on offer here. If you’re not one of those people then perhaps consider looking elsewhere this week.

Q’ulle – “Monster

Life after Danceroid appears to be working out pretty well for the members of one of 2015’s more interesting new groups Q’ulle. Their debut single “Mic Check One Two” was very positively received in my circles and their follow up titled simply “Monster” appears to also be going over rather nicely. This time out they’ve even got a couple knock-off Slipknot members in their music video because why not. Joking aside, 2015 is looking to be a pretty good year for new or I guess maybe repackaged idol groups and Q’ulle are definitely leading the charge. With a debut album slated for June and a third single sometime between now and then, fans should have plenty to get their teeth into between now and the end of the year.

ALSO THIS WEEK:

“Yogoshitakunai Cry” by Clear’s
Gangan Dance / Kimi no Tame ni” by OS☆U
Tabi no Susume ~ Let’s Make A Journey Together!” by Ring-Trip

Third Album (Kari)” by Up Up Girls (Kari)
“Aimai Moon” by WHY@DOLL
Bye Bye My Days” by Yumemiru Adolescence

This week is absolutely jam-packed with new releases so it was pretty difficult to decide what to feature. Other releases that I think are definitely worth checking out include OS☆U’s latest single, Up Up Girls (Kari)’s third album and the new single from Ultragirl, a group I’d never heard of before this week but I think they have something about them. One to watch for the future I think. Apart from that, just dive in and see what catches your attention. Until next time.
