This week’s featured releases come from AKB48 and Ayumikurikamaki.
AKB48 release their first single of 2015 this week in the form of “Green Flash”. This offering sees them tackle a RnB sound that for them is a fairly novel concept. It’s perhaps not so fresh in the grand scheme of today’s music landscape (the early 2000s called, they want their song back) but for AKB this is a big enough departure from the norm to be noteworthy. Also featured on the single are new b-side songs by SKE48, NMB48 and HKT48. Just to make sure they hit every fan’s wallet from all possible angles. Snark aside, this is probably going to be one of the more interesting AKS singles of 2015.
Ayumikurikamaki had a criminally underrated single release in 2014 by the name of “Jet Kuma Star”. It personally made my list of top 10 singles for that year, clocking in at #1 thanks to its infectious lyrics and hype instrumentals. Everyone I showed the single to loved it too, so it obviously wasn’t just me either. With those kind of reviews, any follow-up would have a tough act to follow. Well, “Shake Shake Shake” continues from where “Jet Kuma Star” left off, but hopefully this time it won’t be as under appreciated as its predecessor. Ayumikurikamaki are going to be huge, bank on it.
ALSO THIS WEEK:
Also this week we have Palet releasing their first major album in the form of “Love n’Roll”, definitely worth a look if you’ve never given Palet a shot before. We then also have StylipS, who I’m a fan of, releasing their new single “Mayomayo Compass wa Iranai”. They have a habit of delivering some pretty great songs and this time is no different. Until next time.
