This week’s featured releases come from Berryz Koubou, Fairies and Up Up Girls (Kari).
Berryz Koubou have been on a pretty decent run of releasing good singles. That’s my opinion anyway, feel free to disagree with me if you want to. Well, that run looks like it has come to an end here with a really awkward sounding double a-side release. To be fair, “Otona na no yo!” is an alright song, albeit pretty average. “1-Oku 3-Senman sou Diet Oukoku” on the other hand is just a mess. From the theme of the lyrics to the vocals and instrumentals this song is not very good at all. Hopefully lessons are learned and we get a slightly less…experimental single next time out.
Man has it been a while since Fairies put out a single or what? Well, they’re making their return this week with a rather un-Fairies sounding song. Truth be told I’m pretty torn on what to make of it, I mean it’s pretty fun and kinda silly but I can’t shake the feeling that I’ve heard a similar sounding song before. Maybe I’m just getting thrown off by the English lyrics and the western influenced instrumentals, I’m not sure. On the positive side, at least Fairies seem to be developing their sound some more and aren’t hitching their wagon completely to the serious sounding pop music they started out making.
Up Up Girls (Kari) – Second Album (Kari)
If you don’t already know about Up Up Girls, what’s wrong with you? It’s okay though, they’re releasing their second album this week so now is a great time to jump in and check them out. “Second Album (Kari)” features songs like “Up Up Typhoon“, “Samurai Girls” and “Starry Night” as well as a host of other fantastic tracks that I can’t find PVs for right now. It really is a great package of songs and I’m sure that all of you will find at least a couple that you really enjoy. While you’re at it you might as well check out their first album titled “First Album (Kari) too. You won’t regret it.
ALSO THIS WEEK:
If none of the featured releases interest you, I also really liked the offerings from both Candy Go!Go! and KOBerries. Definitely worth a look even if you’re not normally into indie groups. Also, if you missed last week’s new releases you can check them out here.
