This week’s featured releases come from Momoiro Clover Z (and KISS) and Shiritsu Ebisu Chuugaku.
It’s finally here, the collaboration that nobody asked for and in the end, one that delivered about what most expected it to. I think most people probably raised an eyebrow when it was announced that Momoclo and KISS would be working on a song together. A female J-Pop group and…whatever KISS are these days (rock icons?) doing a song together, the whole concept just sounds weird. Still, there was always a chance that this could have been amazing. Unfortunately, what we ultimately ended up with was a half baked song that is pretty much just a vehicle to help KISS sell tickets for their upcoming Japan tour. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that, but with all of the hype surrounding this release I’m sure many were hoping for something a bit more…epic.
Its been a little under a year and a half since Ebichu released their major debut album “Chunin”. A lot has changed since then and the group find themselves in a drastically different place these days. They now regularly dominate the Oricon weekly charts when a new single is released, have had a number of television shows and the members are even starting to find more solo work outwith the group. Their sophomore album “Kinpachi” provides the musical soundtrack to this epic journey that Ebichu have taken to the upper echelons of the idol world. It’s very colorful, with lots of twists and turns but one thing’s for sure, you’re definitely going to be entertained.
ALSO THIS WEEK:
So those are the releases that you guys have to look forward to this week. I’m still experimenting with writing styles for these posts so please do leave a comment if you liked something or want me to change something up. Just don’t be that guy who says I hate an idol group just because I don’t like a song that they put out. Until next time.
If you missed any of the last few weeks’ worth of new music you can check out past editions of This Week in Music here.
