This week in music 01.07.2015

Happy New Year everyone! This week’s featured releases come from Nogizaka46 and Pla2me.

Nogizaka46 – “Toumei na Iro

Nogizaka46 kick off 2015 by releasing their debut album “Toumei na Iro”. It’s a fairly hefty 2-disc collection that features all of their singles, a selection of b-sides and 8 (technically 9 if you count the Overture) brand new songs. Say what you want about 48/46, but they tend to pack their albums with a lot of new content. It’s a good thing too because for the vast majority of people the only thing they have to care about is these new songs. We’ve all heard the singles and b-sides a lot at this point so hopefully the new stuff delivers otherwise this one is going to fall a bit flat. It’s Nogizaka though so there’s a good chance there’ll be some gems here.

Pla2me – “Unit

Also this week we have Pla2me, the duo of Kamiya Saki (ex-BiS) and Mizuta Mari (Izukoneko), releasing their second major single “Unit”. It’s a bit of a departure from their debut “Plastic 2 Mercy” in that it’s definitely not as energetic or in your face. Instead “Unit” is a lot more subdued, which may or may not be a good thing depending on your opinion of their first single. I personally don’t particularly care for the song at all and I’m a bit disappointed that this is the follow-up to such a strong debut. I know singles can’t all be amazing but you want to build momentum from a debut and I’m not sure that this single does that.

Kimi ni Sakura Hirari to Mau” by Doll Elements
Neo Signalife” by YuiKaori

If you’re looking for something else to check out this week, I quite like Doll Elements’s “Kimi ni Sakura Hirari to Mau”. It’s not really something that I’d usually be into but it just sort of drew me in. Maybe it will do the same to you. Until next time.
