Sounds From the Underground: Start!

“Sounds From the Underground” is a new feature where we will be covering unknown idol acts! Click “read more” to read more about ☆t!(pronounced “start”).

☆t! is as low-budget as it gets. You thought “Station” was low-budget? Wait until you see ☆t!. ☆t! is produced by the one and only Ookuma Hidenori(?)! He is a music teacher who happens to produce this “idol rock group”. The sound of ☆t! can be described as Japanese folk rock.

The biggest thing that stands out about this group is how the girls actually play their instruments during live concerts and when they perform on street corners. You have to have a lot of guts to perform on street corners and I give them a lot of credit for that.

Also, how can you hate random boy drummer!?

Performing on street corners reminds me a certain group by the name of “Momoiro Clover Z” who used to perform on street corners as well.

It is nice to see that there are people trying to incorporate more musicality in “idol music”. I put idol music in quotations because this genre of music is technically not your typical “idol music”. The group is labeled by the Ookuma as an “idol rock band” so I will go with what he says.

☆t! also has several videos of them doing random things in video features on their youtube channel.

If you can ignore the overall low-budgetness of this group, I think you can grow to like the music because although the production of the music is low-budget, Ookuma is onto something with the catchy melodies and idea of “idol rock bands”. LOOK OUT SCANDAL.
