  1. I’m really warming up to Momusu’s new song, Maji Desuka Ska. Initially I was a bit apprehensive of it’s sound, but now I’m really starting to enjoy it’s “upbeatness”. I especially enjoy the dance choreography, more so than I had before, after watching the dance shot version of the pv. There’s great mix of odd movements that would literally make a person say “maji desuka?!” The air guitar strumming, one-leg-in-the-air twisting, and cabaret kicking mixed in with some theatrical interaction amongst the members makes for a fun performance to see live.

I believe in one of the older podcasts, one of you spoke about how the original pv had concepts that felt out of place, like aika dressed as an old man and flowers growing on cacti. Well it turns out that it’s kind of a funny take on an old folk tale. Since the song lyrics say something to the extent of “lets make the flowers bloom” aika plays the role of Hanasaka Jiisan, an old man who would spread ashes to make flowers grow. Hence the reason why sunflowers were growing on the cacti.

It’s a shame to hear that Maji Desuka Ska might underperform in sales. Hopefully they continue in this upbeat direction.

    • I agree, after watching Majidesuka Ska being performed on music television programs, I’ve warmed up to the song since the last shows because I like the energy they brought to it when performing live.

I did read about the back-story behind the “old man aika”, but it was still something introduced totally out of the blue, haha. Maybe if the whole PV folktale-themed, it would have fit much better.

  2. It sucks that Maji Desuka Ska isn’t selling so great because I really like it and I’ve been having more than just a passing interest in Morning Musume as a result. I really hope we don’t end up with more Emo Musume just because this single underperformed.

  3. I agree with the fine folks above. Maji Desuka Ska is a step in the right direction but it is a huge bummer that the sales numbers are so low. It’s also a huge shame that C-ute had such low numbers for their latest album as well. What is going on here?

Man, all your guys’ talk about Sakuracon makes me want to just book a flight for Seattle… conventions just have that fun feeling about them. I’ll definitely be looking forward to the summer with the local SoCal cons.

I very much enjoyed today’s show. Keep it up!

    • Crap, I forgot to mention that that photo of Dae is absolutely hilarious. Huge contrast to the other (few that exist) photos that I’ve seen of him. At least you blended into the crowd easily.

      • Mmm, now that I inspect that photo more closely I realize that he’s holding a glass of melon cream soda. Love that stuff.

A bit off topic here, but the image of the drink reminds me of my childhood when my grandmother would take green snow cone syrup and mix it in with a cup of water for us. It was a satisfying drink, but now that I think back on it, it was a really unhealthy thing to do. We were pretty poor, so things like that were very common. Unfortunately.

        True story.

  4. I got to thinking about this after watching Kodou no Himitsu again, the reason you say the vocals sound weaker might be because its not Hitomi in the lead for the song but Yuri instead, and Hitomi has been the lead and had the most solo lines in the previous singles.

  5. Glad to see a new episode up. Gotta download it for the long day at work tomorrow.
