This Week in Music 02.01.2012

Welcome to the first of what I hope becomes a weekly feature where NSK brings you a brief rundown of the latest idol CDs hitting store shelves during the coming week. Considering the volume of releases over the coming months, keeping up with which singles are coming out and on what week can be tough but we here at NSK have you covered. This feature is very much a work in progress so if you have any input on what things you think could be improved for next week please do feel free to leave a comment.

With all that out of the way, let’s take a look at what we have to look forward to coming out on February 2nd 2012:

Iwasa Misaki – “Mujin Eki”

First up we have “Mujin Eki” which is the debut solo single of Iwasa Misaki from AKB48. Billed as an enka single (although many would disagree), Iwasa finds herself joining a very select group of AKB48 members to have received a solo single. We could sit here all day long and debate if the way she’s singing is truly in the enka style but instead I’d rather focus on the song itself. “Mujin Eki” is not the sort of mature sounding song you’d expect a 17 year old idol to be singing but Iwasa pulls it off fantastically. They even throw in an “enka” version of Heavy Rotation as a b-side for good measure. The style of music isn’t for everyone but it might be worth a listen just to hear something different from an AKB girl.

S/mileage – “Chotto Matte Kudasai!”

Next up we have “Chotto Matte Kudasai!” by Hello!Project group S/mileage. Those of us who were unfortunate enough to see the PV were subjected to what has sadly become the norm as far as Hello!Project PVs go. I’m not here to talk about the PV though, I’m here to talk about the super catchy song. They’re literally just saying “Please wait a second” over and over but somehow it ends up getting stuck in your head and you’re humming it to yourself for the rest of the day. If like me you like catchy upbeat idol songs then you should definitely check out  “Chotto Matte Kudasai!”.  Maybe give the PV a miss though.

Last up this week we have Avex Trax idol group SUPER☆GiRLS and their second album “EveryBody JUMP!!”. The album features their first three singles along with a number of other original songs for a total of 13 tracks. I’ve personally never really paid SUPER☆GiRLS that much attention other than casually listening to their singles a couple of times so I apologize for not having more to say right now. However it does feel like “EveryBody JUMP!!” would be a good jumping on point (pun not intended but still funny) for people like me and others who have maybe been thinking of checking them out but haven’t had the chance to yet. No time like the present, right guys?

There we have it, a very brief synopsis of this week’s CD releases. If I missed anything then I apologize, I’m just working from the calendar that you can find under the “Resources” tab at the top of the site. If you do notice anything that needs to be added to that calendar then please hit me up on Twitter (@Mage77) or mention it in a comment on this post.

So, what is everyone looking forward to this week? Anything mentioned above that you’re not particularly looking forward to for whatever reason? Leave a comment and let us know what you think.

  1. Thanks Garry!

cool new feature, especially with the mini-review with each one, extra useful for the likes of SUPER☆GiRLS and the like who I do not really follow and so loose track of release dates etc!

  2. Thank you, It’s nice to be notified about the upcoming releases for the week! I hope this becomes a staple for nsk.

As a side note, I’ve been trying to access older posts that I’ve missed. Unfortunately, there seems to be an error when clicking the previous pages. As of right now, the entire archive of posts are inaccessible for me.

    • That’s a strange error to be receiving. I tried going back a few pages just now myself and it seems to be working fine for me. Have you tried the usual fixes like clearing your cache, cookies, etc?

      • I tried clearing everything and I still can’t access the archives. :(

I’m using chrome as my browser, btw. I’ll try redownloading firefox to see if the same problem exists there.

        • I’m having the same issue in firefox. Although, I did come to the conclusion that it’s an error that only pertains to the page links at the very bottom of the site. If I access the older pages through the archives pull down menu, it’s fine. I find that I can go back through the pages of the selected month, from there.

This is what I’m seeing when I click the numbered page links below.

On the 2nd page I’m redirected to dae’s post on senbatsu elections.

And on the 3rd page and up, I’m met with a page not found error.

          • I’ve been getting the same problem intermittently as well. I thought I was crazy at first, but it seems like the site does have a problem at times.

  3. Weird. I’ll try to look into it.
