I’ve been looking forward to more looks at Toricago since the group’s impressive debut last year. Boy, do I get a look. Firstly, Torikago get to film in Hong Kong, but the darkly lit promotional video for “Kuchibashi” is probably the opposite from what to expect from idols abroad PV: none of the blown white-balance and rosy looks at life. We get Toricago living like vampires with nary a stitch to wear with light filtered through the curtains (OK, not like actual vampires). The decision to use withered and dry flowers and fabrics hung in the background add to the macabre sensuality of “Kuchibashi”. The girls of Toricago get outside solo in the Hong Kong streets, they are running for their lives. The rock arrangements should please those looking for more “alt” in their idol lives. Toricago even get their hands in the earth for some songwriting and arrangement credits. So, yes I’m still very impressed with Toricago. I can’t point you in the direction for your own copy of “Kuchibashi”, but I can give you links to the group’s second album “Legacy” (which never got properly linked here at New School Kaidan).
