Drawing from last year’s “i cAn Fly” album, Toricago show us a more intimate side of things with their emotional song “Hai (灰)”. The instrumentals, like most of what you’ll hear from Toricago, are guitar forward. In this instance, the group provide that swirling, gently overdriven guitar sound that’s backed with atmospheric strings. If that sounds like a warm summer’s day on a tatami, then that’s exactly right. A set of water color screens depicting the seasons get focus for the visuals as the girls themselves try to stay cool and indoors. A great set of backing vocals adds texture and depth to the main vocal melodies just as the girls are either just on the other side of the wooden frame or lending a shoulder. If you haven’t picked yourself up a copy of “i cAn Fly” (it’s available to stream on my streaming service of choice), I think youre missing out.
