Ototoy Friday get a release after about a year, with their new single “Tokyo / Washan Honey”. Today we get the promotional video for “Washan honey”, which finds the duo deep at the watery floor. Through some camera trickery, Minami and Mana sing behind a torrent of bubbles and flanked by kelp towers. Sure, the initial shot of “Washan honey” gives away the conceit of the PV, but maybe you didn’t catch that? The girls themselves keep things really sparse with movements and sing from the seated position. I find the musical arrangement of this release compelling with a decidedly indie band arrangement that builds things up without going over the top and vocals that range from spoken word to the melodic harmony of the pair. Ototoy Friday continue to pique my interest and seem to stretch themselves into unexpectedly artistic corners. “Tokyo / Washan honey” is due for record stores on November 30, 2018, but as yet there are no purchase links available. No doubt I will update things as those links become available.
