The strings stab out a disjointed melody in the latest Maison book girl release. “Raincoat and the Bird Without a Nest”, the english title comes from the group’s fourth major single, “elude”. The empty world is filmed in clool blues and machine grays. But, like so many creatures of the animal kingdom (birds included), a secret life springs from plumage under the blacklight. “Raincoat to kubi no nai tori” fills itself with much of Maison book girl’s world view- poured grey concrete (evidence of fast culture), sparing splashes of color (the natural vibrancy hidden in plain view), and an obsession with the technological (in this case, cameras). I try not to use the word “quirky”, but I know someone out there will probably discribe “Raincoat to kubi no nai tori” Rather, Maison book girl’s off-kilter world dyes the group right to the very fiber of its existence. “Elude” goes on sale June 20, 2018.
