For the second time in as many years, the girls of Lyrical School participated in summer rap school to turn out a pair of promotional videos. The members of Lyrical School are augmented with (what I can only assume are) other classmates from the rap school in these clips. Just like last year, these are self-produced videos meant to stretch the girls’ knowledge spaces. In other words, don’t expect a high budget production here. How did things turn out?
Our first track features DJ Anna, mana, yuu, hinako, and risano in a PV of backwards tracking. The Lyrical school gang work at performing in reverse to make sections of video seem like they are playing in standard direction. When the truly gravity defying tricks play out, the results are amusing and a bit inspiring.
“Summer days” features the rest of the lyrical schools taking a walk through the city with a wide-angle lens fixed on the end of a selfie stick. Really, it looks like kinuka, chiharu, aine, hime, and minan went on a shopping trip on their way back to the dorm. The view through the lens looks like a distorted space, and the girls don’t particularly mug for the camera. But, all that is OK by me: I’m happy just to be along for the ride.
