The five girls of lyrical school have a tour upcoming, and have released a series of videos live at LIQUIDROOM to give you a taste of their live style. Let’s have a look at the idol rap fivesome, shall we?
Things start off with the girls starting things off in their now standard windbreakers and sunglasses. A bit of quick rap intro set begins the musical offering before a cool groove sets with a chant of “Get around!! Tokyo Girls!”. Meanwhile, choruses get the lyrical treatment with sung vocals.
The fun, upbeat “brand new day” bounces along at a steady clip and will get your arms moving from side to side. Hinako, hime, minan, yuu, and risano have a great time on stage starting things with sunglasses and windbreakers and encouraging the rapt audience to sing along and join the call and responses. “Brand new day” is a vibrant and exciting production that really showcases the fun side of lyrical. Give it a spin, and I’m sure you’ll want to look deeper into the rap idol group.
Everyone like “PIZZA”, right? Well, lyrical school serves it up with an eclectic groove punctuated with a tuba bass and intermittent saxophone squeals like we were eating a phat slice somewhere in the French quarter.
Lyrical school keep the concept alive with a slower groove with a start stop rhythm. The samples are a bit eclectic with an electric piano playing over some saxophone grooves and funky drum tracks. Overall, the track sounds like a mystery unfolding. For their part, lyrical school seem to have a good time rhyming over “I.J.” with smiles all around.
“Magic hour” starts with some freestyle acapella rap before the cool music kicks in. The crowd is warmed, the girls are getting hot, and it seems like an appropriate time to play with a bit of melody and easy beats. For the first time, lyrical school engage in a bit of choreography during the chorus with waving arms and a step to the left and a step to the right. You can check out “Magic hour” on the New PV Alerts from September 2016 here.
Lyrical school’s 13th single gets the spotlight on this clip. The night scenes of the girls riding bicycles get replaced by the live freestyle of the girls taking verses in styles that carry more lyricism than hard rap. You can see the promotional video of “Tsuretetteyo” on the New PV Alerts here.
Next up on the set list is the playful “GIRLS QUEST”.
Lyrical school goes into their single catalog with a live version of “Natsuyasumi no BABY”
