Well, I don’t know much about this whole “Last Idol” business. It’s a reality show (think “Produce 101”, my Kpop friends) produced by Akimoto Yasushi meant to create his latest idol franchise: the winning group will be rewarded with a contract from Universal Japan, presumably with AkiP himself producing. What does this have to do with Good Tears? Well, Good Tears is one of the additional units coming from Last Idol. It seems Last Idol will create another set of sister groups. As for “Namida no kamen”, the production values definitely seem higher than your average idol production. The group sing in the rain with sharp looking red jackets with fur shoulders worn over leather (pleather?) vests and metallic ties. It’s the kind of outfit that only an idol can pull. The music puts a bit of Spanish flair in the Jpop, and the entire production sounds exactly like I would expect given its pedigree. Good Tears puts together a measure of well-synced choreography that feels beyond the reach of other new groups. You can find Good Tears “Namida no kamen” on Last Idol’s “Bandwagon” single due on December 20, 2017.
