A new single is about to surface for the avex/WACK project, EMPiRE. On “RiGHT NOW”, the girls look comfident and accomplished, and remarkably “normal” (by WACK standards). In bewitching black dresses, the girls play with fire in a dance shot executed with sparks and flames surrounding them on three sides. EMPiRE look well choreographed and practiced even with the flaming pinwheels all around them. Maybe it’s the lack of face obscuring masks or the uniform drabness of the costuming, but I’m finding the variety of hair color suiting the group very much (good on you, MiDORiKO EMPiRE, for making your name make lots of sense). EMPiRE seem to be getting stronger with every single, so I’m going to recommend this one to you my dear readers. “RiGHT NOW”, the third single from EMPiRE, goes on sale October 16, 2019.
EMPiRE is a group formed on August 23, 2017. The group was formed as a collaboration by WACK and avex known formerly as Project aW. Project aW was formed around YU-Ki and YUKA who had participated in the WACK auditions earlier in the year. Girls who had failed the previous WACK audition were especially encouraged to audition for this upcoming project. The completed Project AW, known officially as “EMPiRE”, was revealed on August 23rd. EMPiRE released their first single “PiERCE” on February 27, 2019 and charted at number 5 on Oricon’s Weekly Singles Chart. EMPiRE’s current lineup includes YU-Ki, MiDORiKO, MAYU, MAHO, MiKiNA, and NOW.
