The new promotional video release from BiSH provides a bit of schizophrenia along with its edgy yet accessible sounds. This time around, the group provides the second OP theme to the anime “Black Clover”. With such a mainstream connection, you probably shouldn’t expect anything too “out there”. Musically, “PAiNT iT BLACK” gives us a strong melody with none of the excremental extra that would possibly offend the viewers of Black Clover. Images of the members clad in black robes on the rocky cliffs feel more aligned with the group’s aesthetic. Drone mounted camera angles provide great views of the group in the elemental and desolate location. The second set of shots of the girls at a bootleg party among shipping containers and race cars look lifted from a car chase movie franchise or a Bizarro BiSH Htrae. When the police bust up the gathering (necessitating a fast and furious getaway), my eyes really hit the top of my ocular cavity. To my eye these shots look and feel forced, and I, perhaps like the girls, dream of witch robes and a windy, rock strewn shoreline that makes a more fitting accompaniment to “PAiNT iT BLACK”. You can buy BiSH’s third single in stores starting on March 28, 2018.
