It was revealed today that iDOL Street group GEM (Girls Entertainment Mixture) would be dissolved this spring. Through Yahoo! News Japan and Nikkan Sports, GEM will continue until Spring, at which point the group will be broken up. The decision was made after almost a month of deliberations considering each member’s future (according to an industry person). An official statement from iDOL Street is still forthcoming and will be released in the near future.

According to the official statement, the final GEM performance will take place on March 25, 2018 at Yamano Hall in Tokyo. Following the performance, the group will dissolve on March 31, 2018. As indicated in her English language statement made through her official Twitter and instagram accounts, hiatus-member Takeda Maaya will return from Los Angeles for the performance and make March 25 her reunion and her farewell stage with GEM. Conspicuously, statements from suspended members Murakami Lana an Iyama Maho were not included in the official statement.
The future of GEM was put into jeopardy when members Murakami Lana and Iyama Maho were suspended on December 18, 2017 (last month). Speculation for the suspension centered on the two girls missing a scheduled Showroom and going on a date along with additional incriminating Twitter photos. GEM would go on to cancel the remainder of their 2017 schedule including upcoming live performances. Considering the important roles the two girls played in GEM, the future of the group looked uncertain.
GEM is the third idol group from the Avex backed iDOL Street. The starting line-up included Kanazawa Yuuki, Morioka Yu, Minamiguchi Nana, Kumashiro Jurin, Takeda Maya, Murakami Lana, Iyama Maho, Ozeki Nagi, Sakamoto Hazuki (now with Wa-suta), Asakawa Nana (now with SUPER GiRLS), and Uchimura Risa (also with SUPER GiRLS). An early line-up change shuffled in Ito Chisami, Oguri Kako, and Hirano Sara and shuffled out Nagi, Hazuki, Nana, and Risa. The ten-member GEM made their indies debut in July 2013 with “Speed Up / Do It Do It” and their major debut on New Year’s Day 2014 with “We’re GEM!”.
