for the record

my favorite akb48 pv is probably ‘keibetsu shiteita aijou’.

the atmosphere is well established and the color palate is beautiful.  the floaty camera movements and quick cuts are disorienting and off-kilter, supplementing the content of the song.  i’m not a fan of the ‘synthesizer keyboard sound’ that so many idol songs rely on, but in this song it’s just subtle enough that it doesn’t come off as distracting; the small addition of an acoustic guitar playing along with it makes a big difference.  you can tell everything was thoughtfully composed and edited.  the end is absolutely haunting.

this PV was a trigger that started my interest in them; it was something i wasn’t expecting from an idol group.  they’ve done plenty of surprising things since then.
