Buono! I’ve Missed You

It’s been awhile since we have last heard from our favorite little rock trio from H!P. The group released only one single last year which left a lot of fans eager and worried that their Buono! fix was going to end since the subgroup was never officially made a permanent group under the H!P umbrella. Fortunately though, A new Single was announced for the beginning of 2011, coupled with the announcement of a new Buono! Tour and the release of a Buono! Youtube Channel. I think it’s safe to say that Buono! is going to be here for the long haul.

I had some worries though with this new Buono! single. This would be their first single since switching over from Pony Canyon to Zetima (The Label that releases most of H!P’s music) which immediately sets off alarms in my head. As most of you know, I’m pretty critical on UFA’s direction lately regarding their Music Videos. And while Buono! has always had this higher production value/execution thanks in large part to Pony Canyon’s decision making and direction, I had an uneasy feeling the Production value we are accustom to seeing for Buono! wouldn’t transfer over well under Zetima’s helm.

Though to my surprise. The PV wasn’t bad! It’s one of the most well produced PVs I’ve seen come out of UFA in A long time. Though the lack of any dance shots and Choreography was pretty disappointing, I guess I will have to wait and see the song performed live to comment on that. The PV is set in a garage with a bunch of cars and foreign kids pretending to play Instruments in the background. That part of the PV was the only thing that threw me off as I felt like I was watching an Idol PV/Kidz Bop Mash up that went horribly bad. I would have preferred if they got the actual band members that follow Buono! on their tours to be the background members instead. For one they would actually be playing the Instruments correctly, and they also would have brought more of a rock atmosphere to the PV. The Song itself is what I come to expect from Buono!. A very rock oriented idol song which is a relief to me as I was worried that Tsunku might try and throw a curveball at us and make these girls perform with bagpipes and violins  in the background.

The new single is titled “Zassou no Uta” and it releases on 2/2. Almost the exact same date that their last single was released last year.  About damn time.

  1. Liking the song, not really feeling the PV though. Mainly due to the random kids in the background, have to wonder what UFA was thinking when that decision was made.

  2. Purely as far as production goes, this may be the best thing H!P has put out in a LONG ass time. The visuals look like they actually put effort into cinematography, lighting, and busted out the good cameras to shoot it with. I just wish they actually had good material to shoot, because watching girls pretend to do stuff in a auto-repair shop is not exciting, fun, or even remotely interesting to watch.

However, moving to Zetima shot alarms in my head not because of the blows the PVs could take, but because of the musical shift it may imply. For that reason I might be a little too critical on this single, especially since I’m not liking it as much as I liked “Our Songs” from 2010. Hope to see more from Buono to prove me wrong.
